2025 Women’s Wrestling Program

Seminar with World Champion Yu Sakamoto

NSW Wrestling is proud to announce a very special opportunity for our athletes: a three-day training seminar with World Champion Yu Sakamoto, visiting us all the way from Japan!

Yu Sakamoto is a rising star in women’s freestyle wrestling, competing in the 53 kg (117 lb) weight class. A decorated youth athlete, she claimed gold at the 2022 U20 Asian Championships before moving up to U23 competition and winning Gold medal at 2025 World Championships.

Yu Sakamoto will be in Sydney as NSW Wrestling's guest at the 2025 National Wrestling Championships, and we’re thrilled to have her share her expertise in a series of focused training sessions running on the afternoons of Monday, June 30th, Tuesday July 1st (Womens Only session) and Wednesday, July 2nd, 2025.

These sessions are part of our Women’s Wrestling Program, aimed at providing high-quality development opportunities for female athletes across all levels. However, unless otherwise specified, male and youth athletes are welcome to attend as training partners to support our female wrestlers and benefit from the experience themselves.

What to Expect:

  • High-level technical instruction from a current world champion

  • Tactical drills, live wrestling, and Q&A opportunities

  • A strong focus on empowering female athletes

  • A unique cultural and sporting exchange with one of Japan’s best

Dates & Location:

Sessions will be held in the afternoons each day. Exact times and venue details will be confirmed shortly and posted on this page.

Who Can Attend:

  • Athletes of all ages and skill levels. NSW membership or Wrestling Australia membership is required to attend the sessions.

Please keep an eye on this page for updates on training venues, session times, and registration details. This is a rare opportunity to learn from a world-class wrestler—don’t miss it!
