NSW Wrestling Program Portfolio (2023 - Current)
Our program portfolio includes programs for women's wrestling, official state level competitions, domestic and international training camps, and youth development training camps and seminars for all of our NSW Wrestling members. We aim to support our existing senior athletes and prepare the upcoming generation of wrestlers for major international events such as Los Angeles 2028 Olympics and Brisbane 2032 Olympics.
Below is a detailed list of key events in chronological order. Please note that this page is informational and might be slightly outdated. Registrations for our events are typically done via the Events page or through announcements on our social media channels. Stay tuned for updates by following us online.

Note: For 5 athletes invited/sponsored athletes as arranged by our Japanese partners. Our partners in Japan (who are sponsoring this) will be telling us which athletes they want to select to train with their team (based on the gaps/requirements/weigh divisions etc.) of their team.

- Intermediate/advanced levels. This is not a beginners camp.

TBC November: Japan Chiyoda Cup Tournament and Training Camp (U15 only)
- Two weeks of training camp, followed by the Chiyoda Cup 2026 competiton, one of Japan's biggest and highest level U15 tournoments.
- A selection criteria will apply. Elite level athletes only.

Flexibility of Dates: Please be aware that dates for training camps and seminars may be adjusted by a few days based on venue availability and other logistical factors. Always confirm details closer to the event.

Additional International Seminars: Similar to 2025, we are planning to bring more world-class coaches (World Champion/Olympic Medalist level) from Japan for more seminar events throughout the year. These are not yet listed as dates will depend on their availability and are usually arranged 3-4 weeks prior. Announcements will be made as soon as they are confirmed.
2025 Highlights
January 24-26 School Holidays Training Camp 2025
High intensity traning camp open to advanced competitive athletes in U16 and below age groups.
February 8, 2025: NSW State Championships 2025
The official State Titles and the most important competition of the year. Results will influence selection criteria for 2025 and 2026 events, including training camps and sponsorship opportunities.
March 8, 2025: Wrestling Seminar by Daichi Takatani
A seminar led by 74kg Olympic Silver Medalist and multi-time Japan and World Champion Daichi Takatani. A rare opportunity to learn from one of the best active wrestlers in the world.
April 25-27, 2025: School Holidays Training Camp
A training camp open to intermediate-level U16 athletes, held during school holidays.
July 12 - 26, 2025: Japan Open Tournament & Training Camp
NSW Wrestling will send a team to the Japan Open Tournament, followed by a two-week training camp in Japan. Open to elite-level athletes with international competition experience.
August 5 - 9, 2025: Thailand Open Tournament
NSW Wrestling will sponsor State team members for the Thailand Open Tournament.
August 17 - 23, 2025: Youth Wrestilng Training Camp with Team Japan
Intensive training camp a week leading into NSW Cup tournoment. A unique opportunity to train alonside an elite-level team and some of the best inernational U15 talents from Japan.
August 24, 2025: NSW Cup 2025
The second official competition of the year, featuring team trophies and cash prizes for the top teams.
August -December 2025: Womens Wrestling Program 2025
This program, sponsored by NSW Wrestling, aims to increase female participation in wrestling. Held at Sydney Wrestling Academy, the 16-week course introduces the fundamentals of wrestling to beginners, led by one of Australia's top female coaches and top atheletes, Shine.
2024 Highlights
February 3, 2024: NSW Youth Wrestling Open Day
A fun-filled day featuring a BBQ and large training session, open and free for all NSW U16 age groups.
February 18, 2024: Official State Championships
The official State Titles of 2024. Results will influence selection for other events in 2024 and 2025, including training camps and sponsorship opportunities.
March 9, 2024: Women’s Wrestling Seminar by Tayla Ford
A specialized seminar offered by New Zealand’s Commonwealth Medalist and Olympian Tayla Ford. Open to all female members.
April 13 - 14, 2024: Youth Development Camp Weekend
A weekend of intensive training featuring two sessions each day, led by six of the most experienced coaches in NSW. Open to U16 age groups of all levels.
April 28 - May 15, 2024: Japan Training Camp 2.0
A three-week training camp in Japan at world-renowned institutions Nippon Sport Science University and Tosu Technical High School. Open to advanced competitive-level wrestlers.
June 6 - September 20, 2024: Women’s Wrestling Program
This program, sponsored by NSW Wrestling, aims to increase female participation in wrestling. Held across three gyms in Sydney, the 12-week course introduces the fundamentals of wrestling to beginners, led by two of Australia's top female coaches.
June 8, 2024: Ryota Koshiba Wrestling Seminar
A unique opportunity to learn from Japan National Champion Ryota Koshiba. Open to all age groups and levels.
July 11 - 13, 2024: School Holidays Traning Camp
A high-intensity training camp designed for advanced U16 athletes, aimed at preparing them for international-level competitions.
September 8, 2024: NSW 2024 Cup
The second official competition of the year, featuring team trophies and cash prizes for the top teams.
September 25 - 29, 2024: Southeast Asian Championship & Oceania Invitational
NSW Wrestling sponsored the State team members for participation in this major international competition in Thailand.
July - December 2024: Greco-Roman Wrestling Program
To boost the profile of Greco-Roman wrestling, NSW Wrestling offered free weekly introductory classes led by Asian champion Tsuchika Shimoyamada.
October 9 - 12, 2024: School Holidays Traning Camp
A high-intensity training camp aimed at advanced U16 athletes, preparing them for future international competitions.
December 13 - 15, 2024: Advanced Seniors Team Training Camp
A rigorous training camp for NSW Wrestling seniors team members.
2023 Highlights
April 16, 2023: Wrestling in Par-terre Seminar
A focused seminar on Par-terre positions, attack, and defensive techniques led by Japan and Asian Champion Tsuchika Shimoyamada. This was a rare opportunity to learn from one of the highest-ranked Greco-Roman wrestlers in the world.
April 30, 2023: Sydney UWW Grappling Championship
A fun grappling event conducted under the UWW ruleset, bringing together skilled athletes from across the region.
July 16, 2023: NSW State Cup
The second official competition of the year, offering top team and top athlete prizes. Wrestlers competed for the prestigious NSW Cup.
September 2, 2023: Women’s Wrestling Seminar by Nachi Musada
An engaging seminar open to female members of all levels, led by renowned wrestler Nachi Musada.
September 10, 2023: Official State Championships
The official State Titles for 2023. The results played a pivotal role in selection criteria for upcoming events in 2024 and 2025, including domestic and international training camps.
October 20 - November 11, 2023: Japan Training Camp 1.0
NSW Wrestling sent a team to participate in the Japan Open Tournament, followed by a two-week elite training camp. Open to elite-level athletes with international competition experience.
